In New York State, a young family turned their dream of owning a traditional log home into reality. Their home combines the timeless character of chinked log construction with a practical, cost-conscious approach to building.

The log walls use a cost-effective chinking system designed to hold the logs securely in place without the settling typically associated with traditional log construction. This provides a stable structure while preserving the distinctive appearance of a classic chinked log home.

Keep construction costs down

To keep construction costs down, the family chose to apply the chinking themselves. Their hands-on involvement not only reduced expenses but also gave them a personal connection to the home they were creating.

The gallery documents stages of construction, including individual wall panels and the home's assembly. It also captures a special moment with the family inside their partially completed home, a reminder that building a log home is about more than construction. It is about creating a place to call home.
