It Started With the Logs
It Started With the Logs
We like log homes built from real, individually shaped timber. The taper, sweep, diameter and character of the tree are part of what makes the finished building interesting.
We did not want to remove that variation simply to make the manufacturing easier.
So we worked on the other side of the problem: how to measure, calculate and machine irregular natural logs accurately.
Keep the Timber. Change the Process.
Traditional handcrafters already know how to build beautiful structures from natural logs. The difficulty is the enormous amount of skilled manual work required to fit those logs together.
Our approach is to preserve the material and automate much of that difficult manufacturing work.
Each log can be measured in three dimensions, represented digitally, positioned in the building and machined according to its own geometry.
The technology changed. The tree did not.
Technology Has a Job
Technology Has a Job
We use scanners, software and industrial robots because they solve useful problems.
They let us work accurately with material that is naturally irregular. They let us calculate connections before cutting timber. They let us manufacture complex components repeatedly without requiring every component to be identical.
But we have no interest in putting technology into a building simply so we can say that technology was involved.
When the building is standing, the scanner, computer and robot are gone. What remains is the timber.
We Manufacture. You Build.
Much of our work is intended for builders, handcrafters, contractors and construction companies.
They know their customers, their building sites and how to put a structure together. We have developed the equipment and software to manufacture the natural-log components.
That makes for a fairly simple relationship: you build the home, we manufacture the logs.
Working with us as a builderStill Curious?
You can look at the homes, follow the manufacturing process or go all the way into the measurements, calculations and test data.
We're not going to bury you in technical detail unless you want it. But if you want it, we've got it.
